Hi,

I had an observation.
When invoke CocoBase admin tool from inside Visual Age
for Java 3.5 patch 2, and if I have deployed and testing
the BMP using any test client program written, I get a
ClassCastException on lookup. If I close the Admin tool
and run the same test client then no errors are encountered.

Our developers say there are more than one issue that could
cause this, and that there may be more than one answer to it.

Most likely they say that the issue stems from the use of
VAJ 3.5 Professional and not Enterprise. Apparently the
Professional includes the old EJB 1.0 JNDI classes and that's
probably part of what's causing your issues. One of our
developers apparently had similar problems, but resolved it
when they installed the jBoss VAJava integration. Apparently
that integration updates VAJava's library jar files to include
the EJB 1.1 compatible lookup classes and they can now access
clients properly.

We're not advising that you do this step, but we can relate
to you that this appears to be a support library version
problem in what's bundled with VAJava. Perhaps IBM can
assist you in upgrading the environment? There may be a
patch available that we're not aware of...

Enterprise Edition. Based on this, can you guys siggest
any possible solution to this problem?

Sounds like you may not have re-run the integration script
included in SR9, but you have SR9 installed... At least
that's one possibility. Without the backtrace it would be
hard to full assess the issue.

We think that if you ran the integration script for SR8, but
you have upgraded to SR9 of CocoBase, you should re-run the
VAJava integration script so that the latest version of the
runtime and tool is installed into the VAJava environment.
This is one of our suspicions... Can you email us the full
backtrace?

Part of the integration installation is that we comply with
the VAJava integration requirements and 'copy' our integration
and runtime files into the VAJava directory space. As a
result you can have an older copy of CocoBase in the VAJava
environment...
