I'm having real difficulty connecting to my Sybase database when I use the cocoadmin tool outside of Forte. Even though my com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver driver is in my classpath (in a jconn2.jar file) the following error keeps appearing when I try to connect:

Error - Check CLASSPATH:thought.CocoBase.CocoBaseException: CBMessage=Connect failed in Database SQL.CoreMessage=No suitable driver CocoBaseErrorCode=DBCONNECT_FAILURE

My classpath variable looks like:

CLASSPATH="C:\Program Files\jdk1.3.1_01\lib;J:\Softdev\webdev\javadev\jConnect-5_2\classes;J:\Softdev\webdev\javadev\jConnect-5_2\classes\jconn2.jar;J:\Softdev\webdev\javadev\jConnect-4_2\classes;H:\jacob;C:\thought\cocobase4\classes"

The following warning also appears in the CMD window:

Warning: unable to instantiate com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver

I am able to connect using the same connection parameters through the module in Forte but I am then unable to create the CB_ tables. I click on Install but no tables are created. I then encounter exceptions when I try to create a map as it complains that an Object Schema cannot be found.

Obviously I cannot continue evaluation until I can get past these problems and I am very encouraged by what I have read in the documentation so far.

Please can you offer any advice?

That particular driver is a 'deployment' driver for use with
a JNDI Connection, but not for general JDBC 1.2 style

You should instead be using the java class:

That class is more appropriate for building and maintaining
CocoBase repositories. It should be included in one of the
driver archives with your Sybase system...
